GHANA EDUCATION SERVICE
WASSCE/BECE REGISTRATION FOR 2022Five thousand and thirty (5,030) students have been registered for the 2022 BECE. All things been equal they will sit for exams in November, 2022.
Forty six thousand and eight (46,008) candidates have registered for the WASSCE in all the six public schools. The slated date for the WASSCE is from July – September, 2022.
GALOP – GHANA ACCOUNTABILITY FOR LEARNING OUT PROGRAM
This is an intervention sponsored by the World Bank. It is a three-year programme which was started in 2020 and will end in 2023. The programme is ran in 100 Districts/Municipalities. Kwabre East was among the few beneficiary municipalities. This programme primarily seeks to improve on the performance of pupils by taking into consideration the individual pupil’s level of developments, abilities and capabilities (Differentiated Learning) Fifty five (55) out of the seventy three Primary Schools are on the GALOP Programme.
The selection of these fifty five schools were done at the Headquarters based on several factors. Grants are released to these schools by the World Bank to ensure that the necessary resources needed for effective teaching and learning are met. From the Director to the last child in these GALOP schools are accountable thus there should be a positive feedback targets set must be attained to ensure the sustainability of the programme in the Municipality, the directorate is on course.
USAID – LEARNING PROGRAM ON TRANSITION TO ENGLISH LANGUAGE (T2E)
Transition to English language (T2E) is also an intervention sponsored by USAID. The eighteen (18) non-GALOP Schools are all on the T2E programme. This intervention seeks to improve on the reading levels of learners from BS1 to BS3. T2E Schools have been provided with resource materials (teacher’s guide, resource pack, reading and supplementary books). Schools were also provided with radio set and pen drives for the radio programme every week.
NATIONAL STANDARDIZED TEST (NST)
With reference to the New Educational Reform – Common Core Program (CCP), BS 2, BS 4, and BS 6 pupils will write a National Standardized Test. Dates will be communicated in due course.
PLC – PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITIES
As part of the regulations of the New Curriculum and Standard-Based Curriculum, every Wednesday (from 2:00pm – 3:00Pm) is set aside for PLC. Schools close for pupils whilst facilitators (teachers) converge and assess their pedagogical skills in the classroom.
FREE SHS
All the six (6) SHS have exited the double track system, there are still uncompleted projects in all the six public schools. These are posing major challenges in the schools with regard to the increasingly number of students due to the free SHS programme.
FURNITURE
The Municipal Chief Executive presented (100) dual desks to five primary schools at the beginning of the 2022 academic year.
GOVERNMENT UNIFORMS
The directorate took delivery of two hundred and eighty six (286) Government School uniforms from the regional office. Already distributed to pupils.
CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
READING FESTIVAL
The directorate will organize a reading festival at the basic level for public schools. 4th July, 2022 has been slated for the programme. Doors are open for sponsorship for the programme.
CULTURE FESTIVAL
24TH June, 2022 has been adopted to be a day set for our cultural day in the municipality. The directorate plans to organize traditional games, food bursar, dressing etc at the basic schools. This festival aims at instilling in our young ones our cultural heritage, the sense of belongingness and cultural tolerance.
SPORTING ACTIVITIES
The ban on sporting activities as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic has been lifted since March, 2022. Sporting activities have resumed in the municipality for SHS and basic school.
CHALLENGES
The directorate acknowledge the support which are rendered by the Assembly occasionally, but we are still faced with the following challenges.
- Inadequate financial support for trekking officers
- Inadequate furniture for both basic and SHSs.
- School feeding at the primary schools.
The directorate resolves to fully involve all stakeholders in attempt to provide quality education for the people of Kwabre East and the country at large.
