KWABRE EAST MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY INAUGURATES MARRIAGE REGISTRY
Kwabre East Municipal Assembly has on Thursday, 4th February, 2021 inaugurated an Office for the Marriage Registry.
During the Inauguration, Mr. Bediako Brempong Asare, Municipal Coordinating Director of the Assembly who doubled as the Chairman of the ceremony welcomed participants present to the ceremony and expressed his gratitude to them for their support and participation. He said the Assembly was fortunate to have a marriage registry office to register and document all marriages in the Municipality. He explained that the office would assist in the registration and documentation of all the three (3) types of marriages in Ghana, thus, Customary, Ordinance and Mohammedans Marriage. Mr. Bediako Brempong Asare concluded by urging personnel who would be working at the office of Marriage Registry to try their possible best to create awareness and educate the people of Kwabre East about the duties and responsibilities of the office so that, anyone who might having issues related to marriage registration and documentation would know the right place to go.
MUNICIPAL CHIEF EXECUTIVE (MCE)
Hon. Nana Osei Assibey Bonsu, Municipal Chief Executive of Kwabre East during the inauguration expressed his gratitude to pastors and Imams for their support in diverse ways in creating the office of the marriage registry. He explained that, the Assembly in consultations with some pastors and Imams concluded that, there must be an office of marriage registry in the Municipality to assist in the registration and documentation of marriages in the Municipality. He explained that the office would be registering and documenting all the three (3) types of marriages in Ghana to issue certificates to couples qualifying the necessary laid down procedures.
Hon. Nana Osei Assibey Bonsu explained that the office will also be registering churches who wish to organize marriages at their places through the Registrar General’s Department to issue license and certificates to them. He encouraged personnel who would be working at the office to work diligently and also keep every information provided by people who would visit the place confidential. He urged the workers to issue letters to churches and mosques in the Municipality to inform them about the office. He further said that the office is open to the general public and would be providing services to neighboring districts and communities.
Hon. Assibey Bonsu used the opportunity to talk about Covid-19 pandemic. He said, the Assembly in consultation with the security personnel in the Municipality had decided to intensify the safety measures and protocols by arresting people without masks to punish them according to the law. Hon. Nana Osei Assibey Bonsu concluded by urging participants and the general public to adhere strictly to all the COVID-19 safety protocols.
The marriage registry office inaugurated at the assembly will help people within the Kwabre East Municipality who wish to register their marriages can do so without any difficulties. The ceremony was very successful with all the covid-19 protocols strictly adhered to.
