LAUNCHING OF NATIONAL TREE PLANTING PROGRAM IN THE KWABRE EAST MUNICIPALITY
The National Launching of the planting of trees was conducted by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana. And the Kwabre East Municipal Assembly launched their version of the Tree Planting Program at Adventist Senior High School, Ntonso on Friday 10th June, 2022.Trees planting of tree Exercise was organized by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), with his entourage including the Municipal Coordinating Director, Forestry Commission all heads of Department, agencies and the launched the exercise with a Ceremonial planting of thousands of Trees as part of Ghana’s Agenda of Greening the country through tree planting. MUNICIPAL CHIEF EXECUTIVE (MCE)
The Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Opoku Agyemang Bonsu during the ceremony said that trees play importance role in our lives as human. Student here, the green Ghana day mark for planning trees across the county of which Kwabre East Municipality is included. The first edition which was held in June 2021 saw the planning over 5,000,000 trees nationwide. Today happens to be the second of its kind, the theme for this year exercise is mobilizing for greener future, the objective of the theme is to in compete in the youth the value of planning and nurture trees as part of measure to create awareness and get the interest of students for that matter the youth in Green Ghana project. The ministry of Plant and natural resources activates “One Student One tree initiative”. The aim is to get students in second cycle schools in trees planting exercise one of you is expected to plant a tree and nurture it till is mature.
. He further explained that, tree planting is crucial to fight climate change and protect the environment and it is essential for the preservation of the planet, provide oxygen, preserve water and support wildlife. He encouraged the participants to take care of the trees and plant them for the benefit of the country and themselves, and also need to intensify public awareness and educate on the climate change issues. He said the plants provided by government to be supplied to them are many so he urged them to plant them all.
Hon. Opoku Agyemang Bonsu told them that, they should not throw the plants away or leave them to rot but rather plant them to bear fruits in order to boost the economy of Ghana. He told them that, even if we are not in the rainy season, they should try their best to water the plants so that they will not destroy. Hon. Opoku Agyemang Bonsu concluded by informing the people that, inspectors and monitoring team will be coming round to inspect and monitor the improvement of the plants after they have planted them. He also said the people should try their maximum best to make good use of the plants for it to be profitable to the country as a whole.
THE HEADMISTRESS OF ADVANTIST GIRLS
The Headmaster of Adventist girls Senior High School, Mrs. Faustina Sekyere , during the program expressed his gratitude to the Municipal Chief Executive for their continuous support and development in the Municipality.
He used the opportunity to tell the participants the importance of planting trees in our community and the country, that tree serve as a source of natural air to human kind. Mrs. Faustina further explained that, the school has a big land that can be used to plant more trees. He also said that they will want to plant more trees so it can surround them and give them shelter and also makes the compound nice and beautiful. She congratulated the people for their endless support and contribution to the Municipality and country as a whole and also encourage participants, especially the youth to engage in planting of trees anywhere and take good care of the trees. And they will make sure the students will water the plants even when it stop raining, so the plants can grow well.
MUNICIPAL AGRIC DRECTOR
The Municipal Agric Director Mr. Ransford Nyarko during the Launching of planting of trees. He said that the way we are breaching the environment it is so much that if care is not taking it will change our own life. Mr. Ransford said that, the exercise forms part of Green Ghana project by the government of Ghana to fight against climate change hence the need for individuals and institutions to support the program.
He said the fight against climate change must be an equal fight against deforestation and forest degradation.
