KWABRE EAST MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY’S 65TH INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY PARADE ON THE 6TH OF MARCH, 2022 AT THE ROMAN CATHOLIC SCHOOL PARK, MAMPONTENG DUBBED “WORKING TOGETHER, BOUNCING BACK BETTER”.
On Sunday, 6th March 2022, the Kwabre East Municipal Assembly held its 65th independence anniversary parade to commemorate Ghana’s independence from the British in 1957. Dignitaries present were Hon. Oheneba Opoku Agyeman Bonsu (MCE), Hon. Francisca Oteng Mensah (MP), Mr. Asare Brempong (Coordinating Director), Nananom, Party Executives, Heads of Institutions/ Agencies, Chief Imam, Catechists, Core Management, Security Heads, Presiding Member, Assembly Members and the Media.
Arrival of school children, students and identifiable groups started around 7:00 am, followed by the arrival of guests, heads of departments, Nananom and the Municipal Chief Executive and his Entourage.
We had the national anthem from the cadet band and the recitation of the national pledge from Edmund Owusu (student).
Mr. Joseph Ofori Sarpong gave the opening prayer for the ceremony followed by the pouring of libation by Nananom. Hon. Oheneba Opoku Agyeman Bonsu lit up an eternal flame to symbolize the assembly’s perpetual gratitude towards and remembrance of the Independence Day. Hon. MCE together with the Parade Commander and the Presiding member inspected the parade to celebrate this important day.
Going forward, Hon. MCE gave his address. He expressed how grateful he is to address the august gathering just four months into his assumption of duty as the Municipal Chief Executive of Kwabre East Municipality. He welcomed everyone on the behalf of the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo to the year’s anniversary parade. He also welcomed and thanked the Parade Commander and the contingents on parade for adding beautiful color to the 65th Independence Day Celebration. Again, Hon. MCE elaborated on how relevant 6th March has been in the history of Ghana and how the COVID-19 pandemic caused the suspension of the celebration of this day in some cities for the last two years.
Moreover, he threw more light on the year’s Independence Day celebration theme “Working Together, Bouncing Back Together” as a wakeup call on all of us to honor our tax obligations. He elaborated on the COVID-19 trust fund which was used to provide PPEs for healthcare workers, food for the vulnerable and healthcare facilities. He also talked about the free SHS and scholarship for tertiary students initiated by the NPP government as it has aided both the poor and rich in Ghana. He however advised students to study hard for better results in their academics. Parents were also advised to know their responsibilities towards their children and in their various homes.
Lastly, he ended his speech by touching on the road network in the municipality. He assured Nananom that, the NPP government is on course and has resolved to complete all ongoing road projects in the municipality. He encouraged teachers to continue working hard and sacrifice theirselves for the betterment of education in Ghana.
The event continued with a march past by school contingents and identifiable groups. Afterwards a beautiful cultural display was performed by Gyaama Pensan SHS.
Summarily, the MC, Mr. Stephen Anderson announced the various results for the winners and prizes were presented to them, below were the winners;

The whole celebration ended with the closing prayer from the Chief Imam of Mamponteng followed by a refreshment amidst departure.
