COMMUNITY ENTRY BY REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE OFFICE OF THE SECOND LADY OF GHANA.

Representatives from the Office of the Second lady of Ghana, Her Excellency, Samira Bawumia has on Thursday, 5th August 2021, pay a courtesy meeting to the Municipal Assembly of Kwabre East at the Municipal Assembly’s Hall.

The purpose of the meeting was to embark on Community entry to introduce and educate some stakeholders of the Municipal about a project of the Second lady of Ghana called “Needle for Girls” (N for G).

Hon. Nana Osei Asibey Bonsu, Municipal Chief Executive of Kwabre East welcomed all participants and delegation from the office of the second lady to the meeting. He urged all participants to participate in the meeting and answer questions about anything they do not understand.

Mr. Amidu Garibah, Director of Operations of the Office of the Second Lady during the meeting welcomed all members present and extended greetings from the Second lady of Ghana to all members present. He said, the meeting is very brief so he urged all members to participate in it.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT OF THE OFFICE OF THE SECOND LADY.

Madam Sandra Adoma Pay, Administrative Assistant of the Office of the Second Lady during the meeting explained that, the initiative or project is called “Needle for Girls” (N for G). She said, office of the Second lady in collaboration with Zenith bank and GIZ have brought up and initiative or project for ladies between the ages of 16 to 24 years to learn entrepreneurial skills for a period of six (6) months free of charge. She said the only qualification or requirement for registration or enrollment to participate in the project is Voter’s ID card, National Health Insurance Card, Passport or any valid ID Card.

Madam Sandra explained that, girls at the age of 16 and 17 according to Ghana’s constitution cannot engage in any economic activity without the consent of any guarantor so ladies between the ages of 16 and 17 should provide guarantors to sign consent forms in addition to the requirement they need. She explained that, the project or initiative is in three (3) phase, thus, Community entry and education about the project, pre-registration process and career day, which is interview about some vital information from the applicant.

Madam Sandra said, after the registration process, qualified applicants will be sent to the next stage for final selection for the training. She explained that, after the 6 months training, 70% of the trainers will be given opportunity to learn the skills as “work and pay” for 2 years. Madam Sandra explained that, the project seeks to train 1,600 ladies in the fashion industry which comprises of hairdressing, tailoring and make-up. She said, the project will be organized for a period of three (3) years and it is an initiative or project for only females.

Madam Sandra Adoma Pay concluded by saying that, a team from the Office of the Second lady who are well trained and called Enumerators will be visiting the Municipal on 19th August, 2021 to register qualified applicants for the project. She urged participants to create awareness about the project and also encourage ladies between 16 to 24 years in the various communities in the Municipality to participate in it.

CONCLUSION

The Meeting was very successful with all the COVID-19 protocols strictly adhered to.

In attendance were Hon. Nana Osei Asibey Bonsu, Municipal Chief Executive of Kwabre East, Mr. Anderson, Municipal Cultural Officer, Representatives from the Office of the Second Lady, Assembly members, and other stakeholders.
