FREE DISTRIBUTION OF HYBRID COCONUT SEEDLINGS TO FARMERS UNDER 2021 PLANTING SEASON.

The Department of Agriculture of Kwabre East Municipal Assembly has on Tuesday, 13th April 2021 distributed free hybrid coconut seedlings to farmers in the Municipality under the Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) program at the forecourt of the department.

Mr. Ransford Nyarko, the Municipal Agric Director during the program said that, Government of Ghana under the Ministry of Agriculture has provided the coconut seedlings to be supplied to farmers across the country to promote the Agric sector and also help farmers involve themselves well in coconut plantation. He encouraged the farmers to take care of the coconut seedlings and plant them for the benefit of the country and themselves. He said the seedlings provided by government to be supplied to them are not enough so he urged them to purchase more of the seedlings in addition to what they have been given so that, they can plant more of the seedlings.

Mr. Ransford told them that, they should not throw the seedlings away or leave them to rot but rather plant them to bear fruits in order to boost the economy of Ghana just as some other crops like cocoa, cashew nut among others are doing. He told them that, even if we are not in the rainy season, they should try their best to water the seedlings so that they will not destroy. Mr. Nyarko concluded by informing the farmers that, inspectors and monitoring team will be coming round to inspect and monitor the improvement of the farmers after they have planted the coconut hybrid seedlings.

Mad. Grace Achiaa, the Deputy Agric Director of the Municipal the farmers that, the department is not assuring them that, they will provide fertilizers and other materials in addition to the coconut hybrid seedlings provided by government but rather, the farmers are given the seedlings so that they also provide other materials needed in their plantation.

Morro Sumaila, the Municipal Crop Officer and Desk Officer for PERD Project also added that, the farmers should try their maximum best to make good use of the coconut seedlings for it to be profitable to the farmers and the country as a whole.
