INAUGURATION OF THE 9TH ASSEMBLY OF KWABRE EAST MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY

The Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Opoku Agyemang Bonsu, Information Minister Hon Fatimatu Abubakar on 12th February,2024 inaugurate the 9th Assembly of Kwabre East Municipal Assembly, held at the forecourt of Assembly building Mamponteng. Some of the dignitaries who graced the occasion were Hon Fatimatu Abubakar Information Minister, Her Ladyship Natich Abena Tuffour Magistrate Mamponteng, Hon Kofi Frimpong formal Member of Parliament Kwabre East, Mr. Isaac Kwame Elimah Municipal Coordinating Director, Mrs. Dorothey Agyei Deputy Coordinating Director, Nana Adu Baffour Asare Municipal Education director, Mr. Stephen Anderson Municipal Culture Officer, Nana Asamoah II Wadia Kontehene, Rev. Joseph Appiah Kubi Assemblies of God Church Meduma, noble traditional authorities Nanamon, Hon Assembly Members  all heads of Departments  and agencies graced the occasion successfully.

Addressing the occasion Hon Fatimutu Abubakar said she is happy to join through the representation of the nationwide inauguration of district Assembly following the successful conduct of the district level elections in December last year. Hon Fatimatu Congratulate all elected Assembly Members and Unit Committee Members for their success at the poll, she said in accordance which the 1992 constitution of the Republic Ghana appointed 30% Assembly members together  with those elected as well as your member of Parliament and District Chief Executive Constitutes the membership of the Assembly, Assembly members have the mandate to deliberate planes, Mobilized sources  to make this decisions including bye-laws to ensure  the transformation of your Municipality towards  the Ghana we all want.

Furthermore, Hon. Fatimatu Abubakar stated that today occasion marks another important millstone towards deeply decentralization articulated in Article 35 cluses 6D of the 1992 Constitution indeed this Articles enjoins  State to promote the state decentralization and popular participation in governance by according to all possible opportunities to the Citizenry to participation in decision making at all level. Hon Fatimatu noted that government decentralization reforms that stated in 1998 with only 110 district Assembly have made progressing in several forms, today as we inaugurate 259 district Assemblies members out of total of 261 which exclusion of Nkransah South and Nkransah North district Assembly who tenure are yet to end. According to Hon. Fatimatu she believes that this government is closer to the people that is never been in the history of this country as we constitute the membership of district Assembly it is envision that new ideas and opportunities will emerge to deeping the deliberate legislative and the executive function of the district Assembly.

Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Opoku Agyemang state that he is highly honored and grateful to almighty God to the opportunity for been part of such national program today on behalf of the president of republic his excellency Nana Addo Darkwa Akuffo Addo, am pleased to welcome everyone to inauguration of the 9th Assembly of the Kwabre Est Municipal Assembly.

According to Honorable today occasion mark another important millstone towards decentralization and participation in governance, Ghana in 1992 adopted constitution of the fourth republic which confirms continuation of decentralization of government which commences in 1988 takes government closer to people. The constitution also enjoys stated to promote proper participation in governance by decentralizing constructive and financial machinery of government to the region and district and by affording all possible opportunity to the people to participation in decision making at every level in national lives in government. It for the above provision that we are here this morning to witness 45 new Assembly members some whom has been elected and others appointed by the government to carry the mandate to mantle Kwabre East Municipal Assembly the next 4 years.

Again Hon. Opoku Agyemang notes that some of the members has been re- elected whiles others has been re- appointed this means that we still have an experience member who will share their knowledge and experiences with the new members.  He also thanks formal Assembly members for their selfless and devotion during their tenure of office.

Hon. Simon Adu Boateng was elected as a new presiding member polls 32 votes out of 45 total votes casted, while his contender Hon Simmon Clifford Abonyi polls 10 votes.
