KWABRE EAST MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY HOLDS THE FIRST ORDINARY MEETING OF THE 4th SESSION OF THE 8th ASSEMBLY.
Kwabre East Municipal Assembly on Wednesday 10th May, 2023 held the third ordinary meeting of the first session of the 8th Assembly at the Municipal’s Assembly Hall, Mamponteng.
The Presiding Member of the meeting, Hon. George Oppong, during the meeting thanked and welcomed participants present to the first Ordinary meeting of the 8th Assembly. He urged participants to try their best to cooperate and participate within the scheduled time. He used the opportunity to introduce the new Municipal Coordinating Director to the house who is in the person of Mr. Isaac Kwame Elimah.
Hon. George Oppong together with the house glanced through the previous minute for corrections, submissions and approval. The house accepted the minutes after all corrections and submissions have been made.
During the meeting, Hon. George Oppong informed the house of a letter from Regional Highway Authority signed by Mr. Mark Okyere (Regional Highway Director) and also copied to Regional Minister, Road Maintenance Manager Kumasi, Zonal Safety Engineer, MCE and Assembly Member indicates that, unwarranted construction of speed ram tabled at Ntonso community should be removed with the immediate effect, And also to take appropriate action to discourage any future activities of such nature.
According to Presiding Member, the letter is also copied to Regional Minister and the Minister himself has instructed with the immediate effect to remove the speed rams “I am pleading with Municipal Police commander, Municipal Works and Municipal Road Engineer to have this compare with letter to make sure the speed rams are removed with immediate effect”.
MUNICIPAL CHIEF EXECUTIVE (MCE).
Hon. Opoku Agyemang Bonsu, Municipal Chief Executive thanked God for preserving our lives and for making us to whiteness this great day.
In his address, MCE stated that, it is the Assembly’s responsibility to ensure that the Municipality continues to enjoy and maintain the peaceful atmosphere at a time and he wished to report that, the security situation in the municipality has been relatively calm during the period under review. The peaceful atmosphere can be attributed to the fact that; the Police Command continues to carry out its mandates of protecting live and properties. According to Honorable, there have been intensive patrols in the municipality coupled with regular swoops at criminal hideouts. The police command has also been swift in dealing with criminal element within its jurisdiction.
Honorable informed the August house that, the Chief Justice of the Republic, Justice Annin Yeboah has inaugurated two court houses, one at Mamponteng and the other at Ntonso all in the Municipality. The two project were funded from the District Assemblies Common Fund. The establishment of these two facilities will help enhance justice delivery in the Municipality.
Again honorable indicted that in an attempt to mitigate incidence of fire outbreaks at various market places within the Municipality during the harmattan season, the Assembly in collaboration with Ghana National Fire Service instituted fire preventive measure in the various markets. This indeed yielded the best results of zero recording of fire outbreaks during last quarter 2022.
Honorable Opoku Agyemang Bonsu also stated Local Economic Activates, According to him the peri-urban nature of the municipality make those that reside in rural communities depend on the directly or indirectly on agriculture for their livelihood. It is also for this reason that, the Management of the Assembly took advantage of some of the Government’s flagship programmes for implementation in the Municipality. These include planting for food and jobs, planting for Export and Rural Development, Rearing for Food and Jobs. Honorable stated that, he will urge farmers to take more advantage of the programmes and get themselves enrolled. Programmes such as; Planting for Food and Export, Rearing for Food and Jobs, Rice Production etc.
In the aspect of Education, Honorable stated that ,in order to curb absenteeism among the teachers and Pupils and ensured effective teaching and learning in the Municipality, the Education Directorate through the School Improvement Support Officers and other field Officials have been strengthened to perform their monitoring and supervision roles in the municipality. Another key areas he indicated under the Education included: 2022 Basic Education Certificate Examination Result, My First Day at School programme.
Other areas he addressed include; Financial Performance of the Assembly in 2022,Strategies for the improved Revenue Generation, District Assemblies Common Fund, YouStart Ghana jobs and Skill projects, Social Intervention Programmes, Health- Ghana Health Service Excellence Awards Scheme, The GIFT Program and Sanitation and Environment.
CONCLUSION
Members of the house raised concerns about some of the suggestions and recommendations by the executive committee and they were addressed to. The house agreed and made conclusions on the suggestions made by the executive committee.
