He stated this year’s Green Ghana under the theme “Our forests, Our Health” this theme is very essential because we know the importance of trees and am very happy that as you came in here (OLAG) already shows the importance of trees because every corner of the school you see trees and you know how beautiful trees are.
According to Rev. Father, he is happy to see Municipal Chief Executive Hon Opoku Agyemang Bonsu because since he took over as the MCE of this Municipality he has not failed to show special love to Our Lady of Grace Senior High. He said over the years we have prayed and hope the road linking Mamponteng to abrade which takes people to our school could be constructed so that parents coming from all over the country will come with ease; the government has done so well that as we speak the constructors are on the site. And we know that people who are working on the road have so many works to do within the Municipality, and we are happy that through the instrumentality of our Municipal Chief Executive they prioritized our roads.
The Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Opoku Agyemang Bonsu during the ceremony express his gratitude to be part of this memorable occasion of Green Ghana project. He said the program we are witness here was instituted primarily to restore forest cover of Ghana and also contribute Global effort to mitigate climate change. According to Hon. Opoku Agyemang Bonsu it is not by coincident, trees are called life of earth because quite differently they help living things on the planet to breathe; trees absorbs carbon dioxide which is the most prominent of greenhouse gases that are critical tools to fight against climate change.
Hon. Opoku Agyemang Bonsu said, trees being planted today in our Municipality is because those of our communities are rapidly becoming urbanized and as a result of more housing project are being build up, this means a lot of vegetation need to destroy to give room for housing projects enhance they need to plant trees to reclaims them. The need for more Agriculture land to feed more people and also the desire for economic development and exploitation of land for timbers, harvesting , mining, cocoa production or oil palm plantation are all activities that lead to a lot of trees covers, it all part of vicious cycle that threating life as we all know.
According to Honorable Opoku Agyemang Bonsu this year’s theme as “Our Forests Ours Health” is appropriate in the following reasons; forests provide clean water, forests provide air, forests helps human life, forests in our cities help keep us safe, forests helps keep us healthy and above all forests help us to control climate change.
