MUNICIPAL CHIEF EXECUTIVE AND CRAFT MAKERS VISIT PARLIAMENT

The Municipal Chief Executive of Kwabre East Assembly, Hon. Nana Osei Asibey Bonsu and team has paid a visit to parliament.  The visit was to support the Member of Parliament for the Constituency in her statement on the floor of parliament on the maiden Awenee Festival to be held by the Kwabre people.

The Awenee festival which is to be celebrated at the last week of the month of September is to highlight the Tourism potentials of the Kwabre people and the Craft Adinkra and diversity of the kente cloth.  The Festival will bring together the various groups in the craft industry and also aim at reviving the industry to create employment through marketing at both domestic and foreign markets.

Hon. Fransica Oteng Mensah (MP) in her statement gave a little history of the Kwabre people and their predominant occupation.  Which are weaving of kente/Adinkra cloth and craft?  She stated that the festival would give the indigenous people a common platform to exhibit their talent and tell the story of craft and why they are the sole supplier the kente in the Ashanti Kingdom.

Hon. Francisca Oteng and Hon. Asibey later presented a craft handicraft to the speaker at his office in parliament on behalf of the Kwabre people to officially invite him and members of parliament to the festival.  With him were the majority and minority leaders.

Speaker received the gift to parliament and said, is a good one for the development and unity of the country.  He asked them not to make it a one-time event and should include all stakeholders.

Among the people from Kwabre to parliament were the Ahwiaa craft Association Representatives, Ntonso Adinkra Reps, Adanwomase kente weavers, Some Assembly members and selected staff of the Assembly
