THE KWABRE EAST MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY HELD THEIR PROGRAM ON PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES (PWDs) UNDER DACF AT THE FORECOURT OF THE ASSEMBLY ON 28TH JANUARY 2026.
The Kwabre East Municipal Assembly, through the Social Welfare department organized its 4th Quarter Program on Support for Persons with Disabilities(PWDs) under the District Assemblies Common Fund on Wednesday, 28th January 2026, at the forecourt Municipal Assembly.
The programme was graced by key dignitaries of the Municipality, including the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Joseph Amankwah, the Presiding Member (PM), Hon. Bruce Yeboah, and the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Kyie Francis, who were all present to show their support for the initiative.
In his address, Hon. Joseph Amankwah (MCE) advised the beneficiaries to make good and responsible use of the items and financial support provided. He cautioned them not to sell the equipment or materials for quick money but to rather use them productively to improve their livelihoods and living conditions. He encouraged the beneficiaries to remain determined and hardworking, emphasizing that “Disability is not Inability.”
Some of the items presented to the beneficiaries included deep freezers, wheelchairs, shoe-making materials, and cash support, aimed at enhancing their economic empowerment and self-reliance.
According to the Municipal Director of Social Welfare, Mr. Stephen Atta Gyamfi, the allocation of 3% of the DACF to Persons with Disabilities is unprecedented, as such a level of support has not been witnessed before in Ghana. He commended the Government for this bold step and explained that the support provided covers the first and second quarters of 2025.
He further stated that the assistance is intended to improve the health conditions, livelihoods, and economic empowerment of persons with disabilities, enabling them to live meaningful lives and contribute positively to national development.
Mr. Gyamfi also reminded beneficiaries that all items and funds distributed would be monitored by the Fund Management Committee to ensure proper usage. He assured persons with disabilities who are yet to benefit that their time would come, indicating that the next phase of support is expected in April 2026.
The programme successfully reinforced the Assembly’s commitment to inclusive development and social protection, ensuring that persons with disabilities are empowered to improve their standard of living and actively participate in the economic growth of the Municipality.
The President of the Persons with Disabilities, Mr. Fataw expressed profound gratitude to the Government for remembering persons with disabilities and for increasing their share of the District Assemblies Common Fund from 3% to 5%. He assured the Assembly that the beneficiaries would make effective use of the items and funds received, in line with the advice given by the MCE
